After more than 7 years of data collection the fundamental milestone of archiving one quarter of the worldwide 8er production has been reached on February 29th, 2012.
Numerous 8er enthusiasts have contributed to the growth of the archive over the years, first and foremost Jud Spencer, who retired from his active duties for 8Coupe.com in August 2010. Most of the content of this website is a direct result of this enthusiasm and dedication which has continued to date.
Without the initial idea to tackle a daunting task: cataloging all 30,621 8er build sheets, our knowledge about the 8er in general and seen from many specific angles would be much smaller and a good number of exciting stories like those of the Japanese M-Individuals, the Middle East Platinum & Alpina Editions and uncounted more, some of them highlighted in the "Did you know?" section, would have remained untold and eventually lost in the tides of times.
It is thus my pleasure to say thank you to Jud Spencer & all the volunteers of 8Coupe.com on this day finally reaching a very ambitious goal and passing the 25% milestone of 7.655 archived 8ers.
With dwindling numbers of 8ers in the market and a growing percentage of cars archived, tracking down new additions has turned from gold mining to finding needles in a haystack, hence we will not set out to chase another point in the remote distance but rather continue to "overachieve" based on the already archived 25%. If we some day happen to celebrate the 10,000 th 8er in the archive we will certainly be looking down a long road travelled.
It is my hope that the worldwide 8-series community remains active and continues to frequent this website and use its services to make the ongoing efforts worthwhile.
