The 8er.org platform is operated using its own email server, which is used for all 8er.org domains. This email server can be accessed via a web interface as well as through predefined protocols such as IMAP and SMTP.

How do I connect to the 8er.org email server:
- I don't have an email address from 8er.org yet:
- So you'll need an 8er.org email address, which you can request from the webmaster as a paying member.
- The webmaster will provide you with an email address like this: "username.8er.org"
- First, check your email address and log in to the email server's web interface.
- If you want to use an email client, then
- Start the email client
- Create a new email account using your email address
- Under "User," enter your email address
- For the password, enter your password (you can still change this beforehand on the web interface)
- Select IMAP as the protocol
- Enter "mail.8er.org" as the email server
- The system should then automatically detect settings such as the port and encryption.
- If an error occurs, you must select "Manual Configuration"
- Enter the corresponding setting manually as shown below
It should work now
- For existing email accounts, follow these steps:
- First, check via the web interface to see if your emails are still on the 8er.org server. This is important to ensure that no emails are lost if, for example, you've been using POP3 with the setting to delete emails after x days. In that case, your emails will still be on your computer but will no longer be on the server.
- So, if all emails are present, just follow these steps in Section 2.2:
- Forward your existing email account "username.8er.org" to "old-username.8er.org"
- Go to section 1.4.2 and create a new email account
- Now check to see if all emails are being downloaded to the new account at "username.8er.org"; only then should you continue.
- Click once on the email account "old-username.8er.org"
- Right-click and delete or close the mailbox
- The old mailbox, including the data, should now be gone.
- It should work now
- Some or all of the emails are missing from the 8er.org server, so please follow only these steps in Section 2.3:
- Forward your existing email account "username.8er.org" to "old-username.8er.org"
- Go to section 1.4.2 and create a new email account
- Now copy the missing emails from "old-username.8er.org" to the new "username.8er.org"
- Click once on the email account "old-username.8er.org"
- Right-click and delete or close the mailbox
- The old mailbox, including the data, should now be gone.
It should work now
