Information provided: 2`513 vehicles with option code 807 (Japan market version) were inventoried through the BMW 8 Series Inventory Project. There were 25 exterior colors applied to the E31 Japan market version. All exterior colors and interior upholstery colors are cataloged and can be viewed within the sortable tables. Data is grouped by model and color code.

  • Three color groups, Blue, Silver, and Black, comprised 79.03% of the colors produced for Japan.

    • The group of Blue exterior colors represents 28.29% of the Japan market BMW 8 Series produced 1989 through 1999.

    • Following a close second are the group of Silver exterior colors representing 27.38%.

    • Rounding out the top three color groups are Black exterior colors representing 23.36%.

Japan Individuals

Unique to the Japan market, BMW offered a special edition Japan-spec LHD M62 840CiA. This special edition had BMW ///M interior accents, special two-tone paint, and equipment from the 850CSi.

There were 299 M62 840CiA Japan Individuals. However this number may be 302 if 3 prototype M60 840CiAs are included in the total.

The M62 840CiA Japan individual cars were built in three colors all with their roofs painted in COSMOSSCHWARZ METALLIC (303)

Only two 850CSi´s with country code L807 exist. This does not mean though that those were the only CSi´s destined for Japan.

Evaluation of all E31´s with unspecified country codes revealed that no less than 16 additional 850 CSi were delivered to Japan between November 1993 and February 1994.
